The prehistory of Columbia’s Graduate Schools of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) begins with the founding of King’s College in 1754, located first at Trinity Church in downtown Manhattan and then at Park Place and Church Street, where it stayed for nearly a century. The entering class comprised eight students who followed a curriculum principally focused on Latin and Greek.
